Problem: The visible star shape crack observed on slide ring with almost 150 X 150 mm long.

Customer perspective: The client is one of India’s largest steel conglomerate. A leading electrode company had recommended us to the client for the repairs. The machines was purchased from Europe.

Methodology, Process and Procedure: The first step was to carry out inspection of the crack with the mapping to assess the crack depth and the terminal points. The data was collected in standardized format in collaboration with plant engineers, external inspection agency and Allan Smith. Upon the inspection, MOS prepared for the repairs. And, concluded, critical part in the repairs is post weld the grinding to ensure the ring profile over repaired arc length (ring radius R 1960 mm). Profile grinding machine fabricated for the grind and the repair was successfully executed.

Key Success Differentiator:

The success factor was our innovation with design and making of profile grinding machine to ensure the ring radius to an accuracy of +/- 0.15 mm. The checks carried out after the repair using template thickness 12 mm (prepared to a precision +/- 0.25 mm using water jet cutting process) ensures the repaired surface exactly matched the template. Also on startup of the dryer, the bearing temperature was absolutely normal without a trace of additional vibration.

The project has been completed earlier than the schedule with adhering to established tolerances.

Problem: Shutdown Maintenance services to be carried out

Customer Perspective: The client is a renowned chemical company manufacturing and distributing the chemicals. The company awarded us contract for shutdown maintenance services of one of their dryers through competitive bidding of tenders.

Methodology, Process and Procedure:

On inspection, our engineers recommedations were chairpad replacment, bearning inspection and overhaul during shutdown.

Key Success Differentiator:

Our hunch and previous experience was the key success factor to resolve the problem with the trial of first alternative itself. The trial suggested and tried with their own recommended experts failed to stop the jerks despite our suggestion to look at Gear Box first. We were then again approached and we resolved the problem rectifying the gear box.
