Shims

A shim is a thin and often tapered or wedged piece of material, used to fill small gaps or spaces between objects. Shims are typically used in order to support, adjust for better fit, or provide a level surface.

To allow for thermal expansion and mechanical loading and deformation a shim element is fitted between the riding tyre and the casing (shell). This shim element is liable to damage due to the thermal expansion of the elements (casing and riding tyre), but also because of the weight of the kiln and its contents
